With a heat warning continuing today -- and no sign of rain in the forecast a campfire ban will start across the Coastal Fire Centre at noon tomorrow.
A campfire defined is anything under half-a-metre tall and wide.
The Coastal Fire Centre says anyone not compling to the new rules could face hefty fines.
The ban will apply throughout the Coastal Fire Region -- with 2 exceptions: Haida Gwaii, and the fog zone on Vancouver Island along the coastline from Port Renfew to Port Hardy.
The BC Wildfire Service raised the fire danger rating for the Lake Cowichan area to "extreme" yesterday; A wide swath of eastern Vancouver Island from Cedar to Duncan was already under the extreme rating.
Meantime Saanich Fire had to deal with 3 fires of suspicious origin at Panama Flats Monday afternoon, and crews had to douse a blaze at South Shawnigan Lake Rd during ther afternoon commute. No word on what sparked that one.
