Just in time for the weekend -- Drive BC says Hwy 4 to Tofino and Ucluelet has fully re-opened after being closed for more than 24 hours.
The highway closed Thursday around 4 p.m. after a fuel truck towing a small trailer carrying aviation fuel, flipped on its side, spilling its load.
Mayor of Tofino, Jodie Osborne is worried about the environmental implications. "I'm very concerned and I think everyone here on the west coast are very concerned. People are talking about it, wondering what impact it will have on aquatic life and how does this get cleaned up a lot of us don't know the technical side of this so we're anxious to find out more and I'm looking forward to getting an update from the ministry of environment in due course about what we know about this and what we can expect."
The incident cut off Tofino and Ucluelet from the rest of the island for more than 24 hours. Osborne says the highway in that area is twisting and narrow and obviously can be tricky to maneuver at times.
Hazmat team began clean up and remediation on Friday.
The driver was not injured and no one else was involved in the incident.
