Victoria Fire department had a busy day helping with a spill in the Gorge Waterway and a parrot rescue near Gonzales Beach.
We received numerous calls here in the CFAX 1070 Newsroom describing a high-level rescue near Richmond Avenue at Gonzales Beach.
Claire Reynolds says she can't believe how nice the Victoria Fire department is for trying to get a parrot out of a tree, "I don't know how long the parrots been up there but they had the bucket up and they were shooting heavy duty water at it to try and get it to come down. I've been quite intrigued with them trying to get it down."
The excitement started around 1 Sunday afternoon. Vic Fire sent the bucket up to try and get the parrot down not once but twice.
Captain Gord Taylor says they don't normally rescue pets but they wanted to help because the owner was so upset. "We respond to emergencies, not to these type of events I know they're important to the people involved but pets will come down, especially ones that fly."
So the bird is still in the tree at last report.
Taylor says the pet's owner called them Saturday and after spending two nights outdoors they wanted to help Sunday but to no avail.
The story has a happy ending though. "Lokochi" the African Grey parrot came home to roost on its own late Sunday night.
