The Deputy Green Party leader says despite receiving letters from BC's Environment Minister regarding ongoing concerns with the company's contaminated landfill -- Cobble Hill Holdings is still not in compliance.
Sonia Furstenau says after a year of issues, Minister Mary Polak has sent 2 letters to the company since October 11th expressing concern over issues like the quality of discharge water, and long delays on required water management reviews.
Furstenau says Minister Mary Polak's letter on November 4th even threatened to pull the permit. Furstenau she says she doesn't know what Polak is waiting for:
"I'm wondering what message does this send to industry, and to the citizens of this province, that after a year of refusing to follow instructions from the reglatory body this company still has a permit."
Furstenau says residents of Shawnigan Lake have lost trust in the regulatory agencies tasked with protecting the environment environment and want action taken.
Furstenau was speaking with CFAX 1070's Pamela McCall.
