While the U.S. president-elect has said he doesn't believe humans are responsible for climate change and that he would "cancel" the Paris climate accord the leader of Canada's Green Party isn't too worried.
Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich-Gulf Islands, says it won't be as easy as Donald Trump thinks.
"He did talk about ripping up the Paris agreement. One piece of good news is that under the terms of the Paris Agreement Donald Trump can't withdraw the United States for a full 4 years, so that gets us into another election cycle and another election."
May says while Trump can ignore the commitments President Obama made for climate action, market forces favouring climate-friendly products are not things the White House can stop. May adds a lot of climate action happens at the state government level and there are positive things happening there. .
Trump has called for fewer environmental regulations, more drilling, and approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline.
May was speaking with CFAX 1070's Al Ferraby.
