The grandfather of a young Esquimalt athlete who died of an invasive strep infection in March is lobbying for a sports field to be renamed in her honour.
At the time of her death 13 year old Robin Carey was a rising star in the Victoria Devils Fastball Club, had been accepted into the softball academy at Lambrick Park Secondary School.
Ron Pahl will appear before council tonight (Tues) asking councillors to change the name of the southwest corner field at Helmcken Centennial Park to "Carey Field".
Among View Royal's criteria for renaming municipal assets, the proposed name should generally be named after people, places, events and things related to the Town and citizens of View Royal; should honour and commemorate noteworthy persons associated with the Town; would be in the public interest.
