It was a full house at the Hotel Grand Pacific for an information meeting on the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
About 200 people showed up to grill Capital Regional District staff and experts about noise, smell, and neighbourhood disruptions during the construction -- slated to start at the end of this month.
Noise at the Ogden Point site and along Dallas Rd was a big concern amongst many.
According to the CRD Victoria's construction noise bylaw is 85 decibels, but noise mitigation will keep noise below that.
Odours were also on the minds of many. But Project Board Chair, Jane Bird, assures odours will be undetectable at the highest limit of 5 OU's - or odour units: " 5 is not detectable and we expect it will be 2 right at the plant and as you move further away from the plant we expect it will by .6"
Bird says it's a big construction project, and there will be impacts, but the CRD will do everything they can to minimize those impacts. She adds while some did not go away happy with what they heard, others were satisfied to hear information from the experts on-hand: "Most people seem to be grateful for the answer and I think we're going to build a high-quality project on time and on budget and I think that's what the taxpayer wants."
Another information meeting is scheduled for residents of Esquimalt next Wednesday 5 to 8 pm, at the Royal Canadian Legion.
