Friday marks Louis Riel Day in British Columbia.
Carole James, the Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance, will join the BC Métis Nation president and other members to raise the Métis flag at sunrise in front of the Legislature.
Louis Riel is one of the most controversial figures in Canadian history.
Many regard him as the founder of Manitoba, a teacher, and the leader of the North-West rebellion.
However, 133 years ago, the majority of the settlers in the west saw him as a villain.
Louis Riel was 41 years old when he was executed by the Canadian government on November 16th, 1885.
