Victoria Councillors have supported the plan to build a 2-way separated bike lane on Fort Street with one opposed, Councillor Pam Madoff.
Mayor Lisa Helps expects councillors to officially pass the plan at their regular meeting tonight following a little more feedback from a few people who have signed up to speak to the issue. Helps is clear it's a regular council meetiung, not a public hearing.
She says it was a good process for the most part, acknowledging there wasn't early input from businesses but there was later input. She also notes councillors made a significant compromise today:
"We're keeping 8 parking spots and 1 taxi stand in the 600-block. So, with that amendment we're only losing 5% of the parking on the corridor. So to put in these new bike lanes we're only taking 11 parking spots away out of 204 parking spots."
Helps says she wants to see the plan pass, the tender go out, the bids come in and the construction start in early September.
