A local hockey star playing in the NHL Stanley Cup Final isn't too busy to help a Langford kid.
Nashville Predators' defensemen and Brentwood Bay native Matt Irwin stepped up when he heard 11-year-old Lincoln had his gear stolen this week.
Irwin is now working to get the kid new gear made by the company CCM.
“We know how expensive hockey gear and if we can just reach out and help out in any way we can,” said Irwin.
Lincoln says he knew very little about the NHL star before the kind gesture.
“All I really knew about him was that he played for the Nashville Predators, he’s number 52, I’ve seen him play a few times and I think he is a really good player.”
Jason Shemilt, the stepfather, had written on Facebook that the gear had been stolen and they couldn't afford to replace it.
The Langford family says it’s an example of how the power of social media can be a good tool.
