A former Conservation officer who made national headlines when he refused to kill two bear cubs will seek the BC NDP nomination in Oak Bay-Gordon Head for this May's provincial election.

The party announced this morning that Bryce Casavant has a proven record of standing up to Premier Christy Clark.

A Vancouver Island native and Canadian Armed Forces veteran, Casavant had previously planned to run for the Courtenay-Comox NDP nomination, but he says in a news release he realized there are three strong candidates seeking the party nomination there and he now feels he can serve his community and province as the party's candidate in Oak Bay-Gordon head.
