A fire that broke out in a downtown Victoria apartment on Fisgard Avenue this afternoon has caused damage to two suites, displacing some tenants.
Jim McNeill, Acting Battalion Chief with the Victoria Fire Department says fire crews responded within minutes of the call, and were able to contain the fire before it could spread.
McNeil says the fire was contained to one suite "It was confined mainly to clothing and mattress. There was some damage done, the heat damaged some of the pipes and the pecks lines have released a lot of water into the suite and the suite below, so there's quite a bit of water damage at this time."
He says they are lucky to have put out the fire so quickly, as the building is old and made of wood.
McNeill adds that someone was reportedly trapped in the suite, but they didn't find anyone while searching the building and extinguishing the blaze.
No one was injured in the fire.
