A wildfire burning 18km northwest of Sooke nearly tripled in size overnight, growing to 15 hectares due to windy conditions.
But the Coastal Fire centre reports progress is being made on the blaze, dubbed the "Tugwell Creek Fire".
The blaze is burning in slash on privately managed forest land. The cause is under investigation but is believed to be human-caused.
Fire Information Officer Dorthe Jakobsen says crews are working hard to bring it under control:
"We've got 35 firefighters, we've got 3 pieces of heavy equipment and 2 water tenders all working hard on that fire."
Meantime Crews are also making progress on a blaze burning near Nanaimo:
It's burning in an area of felled timber, and the cause of that one is also under investigation.
