Victoria Police have announced a massive seizure of fentanyl from China, along with other drugs, that they believe were bound for sale in Victoria.
Police say the total value was $1.2 million worth of drugs.
Acting Chief Del Manak says it started when the Canada Border Services Agency alerted them to a fentanyl shipment from China. Chief Manak says the shipment contained 1.45 kilogramsĀ of fentanyl, enough forĀ 725-thousand possible overdoses.
That shipment lead them to an address in Victoria, which in turn led them to an apartment unit in east Saanich. There, they found 6052 doses of a heroin-fentanyl mixture, along with cocaine and methamphetamine.
A 27-year-old Montreal man, Duc Khoung Pham, was arrested.
BC Solicitor General Mike Morris says the amount of fentanyl involved in this case is a reminder of the severity of the drug crisis, "a seizure like this demonstrates the gravity of the situation that we're facing not only in Victoria and British Columbia but right across Canada."
Police say the drugs appeared to be destined for distribution right here in Victoria. Much of it appeared packaged for individual sale.
