The father of a Las Vegas shooting victim is speaking out about gun control. Former CTV Vancouver Island news anchor Hudson Mack is with his 21-year old son Sheldon in a Las Vegas hospital where he is recovering from being shot through his forearm and colon.
Mack says he is grateful that his son is one of the survivors, and grateful to those who helped him get the medical help he needed to survive. But he can't understand those who continue to defend the right to own all sorts of weapons:
"It's so strange as Canadians to be here in a culture in which so many people that automatic weapons and modifications to turn assault rifle into automatic weapons is a right, an inalienable right. And yet the health care that is the result of these terrible things is a privilege. You know, we just don't get it."
To those who say it's too early to talk about gun control, Mack asks "when is it ever going to be time?"
Meantime, Sheldon Mack did not buy medical coverage for his trip, and the bills are mounting. A Go Fund me page has been set up with the goal of raising $20,000. At mid-day Thursday it was up to $13,500.
