Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for sections of Vancouver Island tonight (Friday). Winds of 90 km/h are expected to blow across the northernIsland, gusting to 110 km/h.
On the eastern island, from Courtenay to Campbell River, winds of 70 to 90 km/h are expected. And the west coast should expect winds between 80 and 100 km/h, with stronger winds on the northwest coast.
In the Victoria region we could see southeast winds of 40 km/h, and winds of 70 gusting to 90 km/h near the water. Winds should calm down after midnight.
Environment Canada warns the northen tip of the island could be hardest hit, with the potential for wind damage from downed trees. The good news the strom doesn't come at the same time as high tides, so storm surges aren't predicted.
Homeowners are urged to take precautions like securing loose objects. This storm comes just a month after a massive windstorm left 750-thousand people without power, some of them over Christmas and into the New Year.
