The remainder of the old Johnson Street Bridge will have to wait a few more weeks to be removed.
The Dynamic Beast was supposed to arrive in Victoria today to remove the remaining steel, but it's been delayed. Johnson Street bridge project director Jonathan Huggett said this is due to the demand for the machinery.
“The Dynamic Beast is now going to come back on Friday June 8, it might make it on the 7th depending on its workload, it’s a very popular piece of equipment and we have to get in a lineup to get a hold of it,” Huggett said.
Huggett said the crew will be busy doing other work on the old bridge until then.
“Starting today they’ll be cutting off the panels on the east side, the concrete panels that sit on the steel and that will take about two weeks,” Huggett said. “On the west side we’ve been digging down getting ready to create that park on the west side. They’ll be constructing a concrete wall in there, and they’ll be chipping down the old abutments so that they're down almost do elevation.”
Huggett said this delay will not put the project behind schedule, but just change the order they are working.
