Emergency services in five capital region municipalities will soon be dispatched out of the lowermainland.
Esquimalt, View Royal, Colwood, Sidney and North Saanich have been shopping around since learning the service Saanich provides will be increasing.
Saanich notified clients of increases in December after an independent review found they were subsidizing other municipalties by up to 56%.
After examining the costs of dealing with Saanich, The CRD's Fire Dispatch in Langford, and the City of Surrey -- the municipalities learned Surrey can do the job for half the price.
It's estimated the move will save the municipalities $1.5 Million collectively over five years.
The change will not affect the new $16-million CRD police dispatch 911 call centre being built in Saanich.
