A derelict vessel that was sitting on Caboro Bay beach for over eight months has been removed.
The District Saanich had a crew use a large crane to remove the 25 foot sailboat called "the Odin" on Tuesday morning.
Harley Machielse, director of Engineering for Saanich says it’s been a fairly good year in the district in terms of abandoned vessels.
“Last year we spent up to $50,000 removing derelict vessels,” said Machielse. We are fortunate this year that is the first boat we have had to remove from Cadboro Bay beach.”
Machielse says it took so long because each boat is a different case with multiple jurisdictions involved.
The boat was transferred to Hartland Landfill for disposal. The cost of removing the boat was approximately $6,000.
