A 32 year old defender who has played in top tier teams in Europe and North America has been signed to the Pacific FC.
The team has announced that Macell de Jong will be donning the purple and white when the Canadian Premier League season begins in April
De Jong has played 250 games in his professional career, split between the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Helmond Sport and Roda JC in the Netherlands, and FC Augsburg in Germany.
He's also played on Canada's Men's National Team, appearing in 56 games.
At the announcement at the Bard and Banker on Tuesday night, de Jong says he's excited to be playing here on the CPL's newest team.
"It's a great opportunity for me and this club. I told you from day one that I wanted to be here, and I'm excited to be playing for this beautiful city."
He adds that he and his family have been looking at homes in the West Shore, because he is "all in" and wants to be here for the long haul.
De Jong joins 10 other players who have also joined the Pacific FC’s roster, including Marcus Haber, Kadin Chung, Mark Village, Ben Fisk, Victor Blasco, José Hernandez, Matthew Baldisimo, Terran Campbell, Noah Verhoeven and Alessandro Hojabrpour.
Pacific FC kicks off its inaugural season in April at Langford's Westhills Stadium.
