Victoria City Council wants the public to decide if borrowing millions of dollars to replace the Crystal Pool is a good use of taxpayers' money.
Mayor Lisa Helps says the argument is compelling for replacing the existing facility.
"I think it is very fiscally imprudent and irresponsible to keep putting money into a facility we know we're going to tear down and the longer we wait to move on this the more we're going to keep doing that."
Council will put a borrowing referendum before the public late this year. The City has ten million dollars saved, expects the Provincial and
Federal governments to contribute and the rest would have to be borrowed. Total cost of a new pool facility will be about 70-million dollars.
