CUPE Local 1978 members, who work for the Capital Regional District (CRD), remain without a new collective agreement another day of unsuccessful mediation.
A strike or lockout cannot occur prior to essential service levels being negotiated and the CRD or the union filing 72-hour lockout or strike notice.
The next step is to negotiate essential service levels, a process that happens through the BC Labour Relations Board.
Kevin Murdoch, Chair of the GVLRA Board remains hopeful an agreement can be reached.
"Certainly our hope at the GVLRA is that we can return to the bargaining table and settle anything outstanding. But at this point the procedure is these other aspects going together and at any time the two parties can get back together and continue either mediated or direct negotiations."
Members voted 93 per cent in favour of strike action in a vote held May 31st.
