The Capital Regional District has approved an updated Regional Housing Affordability Strategy.
CRD Board Chair Steve Price says housing remains a serious concern across the region and the CRD has an important role to play.
The strategy has 5 main goals: Building the right supply of housing across the spectrum; A shared regional response to existing and emerging demand; Protecting and maintaining existing rental stock; Developing a coordinated housing and homelessness response regionally; and fostering community understanding and support for affordable housing developments.
Projections for future demand suggests continued issues with affordability, and significant needs of very low, low and low-to-moderate income households.
The renewed strategy is the result of review and consultation with stakeholders.
