The regional district has announced the purchase of two lots of land to enlarge the Sea to Sea Regional Park Reserve in Sooke.
The CRD has acquired two properties totalling 39 hectares near Ayum Creek for $475-thousand dollars. The additions increase the total park size to nearly 4-thousand hectares, making it the largest park in the CRD system.
The new lots complete the southeast end of the park, and will be the first portion where trails are built and wilderness recreation facilities are established.
The regional district says the properties contain second growth forests and potential habitat for the sharp-tailed snake, an at-risk species. The park also proves habitat for bears, wolves, and cougars.
