VicPd is warning of a cougar sighting in the 600 Block of Lampson in Esquimalt, just a couple of blocks where another cougar was shot and killed earlier this summer.
The Cougar was spotted Friday morning around CFB Esquimalt and then around 4 Friday afternoon, VicPD found a deer carcass in the backyard of a property owned by the Ramsay family.
It's believed the deer was a fresh kill left in the backyard, 2 blocks from Esquimalt Road on Lampson in the same areas where another cougar was shot and killed earlier this summer.
Area residents including 79-year-old Carol Ramsay were concerned the dead deer was acting as bait. "I'm afraid the cougar might come back to finish off his kill."
VicPD advised the Ramsay's that because the dead deer is on private property it's the owner's responsibility to remove it.
Jana Effigman with the BC Conservation department explains.
"Once it's deceased if it's on a roadway it would be a carcass removal, if it's on private property, unfortunately, no one will really touch that."
A kindly neighbour moved the deer into a storage area.
So far there have been no further cougar sightings.
If you live in the area VicPD advise to be on the lookout; keep your children and pets indoors and call 911 if you spot the cat.
