Victoria council has approved a controversial 5-storey development in the Cook Street Village
The vote came early Friday morning after a long public hearing that went well past the usual meeting time. Councilors heard from many people both for and against the mixed residential and commercial building at Cook and Oliphant.
Former senior manager of the CRD Housing Secretariat Henry Kamphoff was one of those speaking in favour because of the affordable housing component. Others spoke against, some worried that the 5-storey building was too big and didn't fit the character of the Cook Street Village.
In the end the development, proposed by Urban Core Ventures, was voted for 6-3.
