A nearly eight year process to get a much needed new fire hall in Sidney is coming into fruition.
Ground is breaking on the new site today at a property south of the Mary Winspear Centre, at Eighth Street between Orchard and Oakville avenues.
Mayor Steve Price says financially there was some good news over the extensive process in which they had look at three different locations.
“The Winspear site was going to cost us probably seven million over that length of time and the school site probably would have cost us three or four so in a way we have whittled the cost down to one a year over that period of time.”
Sidney owned some of the land but most is owned by the Victoria Airport Authority.
The estimated $10 million project will replace the current one on Third Street.
