As of noon Friday, September 29th a ban on open fires in the Coastal Fire Region is being lifted, but you must still take precautions with any outdoor burning.
Category 2 and 3 fires will be okay again -- although you will need a permit for the latter. Those are fires more than 2 metres high, or 3 metres wide, stubble or grass over more than 2,000 square metres, or more than two piles of any size.
As well you will once againbe allowed to use tiki torches, burn barrels, fireworks, sky lanterns and binary exploding targets. The campfire ban that was in place in the Coastal Fire Centre this summer was lifted on Sept. 18th.
Local governments may still have bans in place, and residents are encouraged to check with your municipality for burning restrictions.
