Clothing Bins will be removed from communities in BC following the death of a man who climbed inside one in West Vancouver.
Inclusion BC, the organization in charge of the bins, and it's community partners held an emergency meeting on January 3rd, and decided to remove the 146 bins currently place in Central and North Vancouver Island, Greater Vancouver, Fraser Valley, the Sunshine Coast, and the Interior.
Safety-modifications, designed by University of British Columbia Mechanical Engineering Capstone Project Course in 2018, are now in the prototype stage, and all the bins will be moved into secure storage until safety modifications can be made to ensure no one can climb into them.
The organization will continue to accept clothing donations at indoor and monitored collection sites.
