The City of Victoria has released an update to the costs of removing the John A MacDonald statue from the steps of City Hall, totalling $30,126.
John Treleaven, 1st Vice-chair of Grumpy Taxpayer$, says the total cost would have been less if the removal was done on a weekday. "It’s not so much the $30,000, it’s how much less would it have been if it had having been done Monday morning at 10 o'clock instead of Saturday morning at 7." Treleavan says that the police and city workers were more than likely being paid overtime for doing the work on Saturday, as stipulated in many union contracts.
