One of the world's largest electric vehicle companies has it's eye on the idle E&N railway corridor between Victoria and Langford for a rapid transit route.
China-based BYD which produces electric buses is floating the idea of an electric bus rapid-transit route along the 15 kilometre stretch of railway Vice-President of BYD Canada, Ted Downling spoke Tuesday on CFAX with Adam Stirling.
"There are examples all over the world where they've taken a rail track and they've either paved over it or added concrete to the outsides the rails and used it for buses, and there's no reason why we can't put electric buses on this and have it in service within one year."
Dowling says the company's vision would be to have as many as 10 buses, at a cost of $850,000 Cdn. each running along the concrete laid on either side of the track with the rail track left intact.
