A CFAX listener is warning others about a scam -- luckily Leon Bateman of Central Saanich didn't fall for it.
He says he got a call at 6:15 am this morning from a man with a heavy accent claiming to be "Tom Jones" with UPS:
The caller claimed to have a delivery and wanted to confirm credit card information, and find out when Bateman would be home.
Bateman suspects the caller was more interested in when he wouldn't be home -- possibly to target the home for a robbery.
He adds he wasn't expecting any delivery -- and notes the call originated in Jamaica.
He is worried that the elderly and others susceptible to scams might divulge their credit card information - which you should never do over the phone.
