A candlelight vigil will be held on the lawn of the Legislature tonight to show support for Canadians suffering through poverty.
Reverend Allen Tysick, founder of the Dandelion Foundation, says it's the 7th annual silent vigil. "I wanted to do a vigil, a silent vigil. Not a religious, Christian oriented, but [one that] the whole community could gather. We stand in a circle with a lighten candle, we do not say anything, we remember the poor across this country, one minute for every province and territory."
Tysick serves the homeless with his foundation, but he says the focus of the vigil is much more broad. "I want to remember the poor families, and people that have come to our country over the past year, refugees that struggle, and others that struggle with poverty in this country of affluence at wealth."
Tysick says the average turnout is around 80 participants, but he would like to see it grow to take over the entire legislature lawn.
He asks that participants show up to the Legislature lawn at 11:45 pm, where they will receive hot chocolate, as well as one of Tysick's homemade, stained glass heart.
