If you've been in Centennial Square in recent weeks you likely noticed a number of people camping in tents had taken over the stage.
But yesterday they were gone and crews in hazmat suits were seen hosing down the stage, as police and bylaw officers looked on. Today the area is fenced off.
City officials will only say maintenance and repairs are underway to fix "damage to the stage and equipment storage area, including the electrical system and access panels."
A statement sent to CFAX 1070 from head of Engagement, Bill Eisenhauer, also states there were also "unsanitary conditions that need to be cleaned up that were unsafe and posing a risk to the individuals using the stage, and the general public visiting that plaza area."
The exact nature of the unsanitary conditions has not been disclosed.
The statement goes on to say those camping on the stage were asked to relocate so the area can be repaired and cleaned. It's not known how long rerpairs will take, or how much it will cost.
