Alzheimer's disease and other dementias affect thousands of British Columbians, but asking for or receiving the diagnosis can be challenging and families often don't know what to do.
The Alzheimer Society of B.C. offers the First Link® Dementia Helpline in Victoria and across the province.
Julie Cameron, Support and Education Coordinator, Alzheimer Society of B.C. tells us how community members can benefit from the service.
"People can call for anything from needing help to navigate the health care system, or if they are looking how to receive a diagnosis of dementia, how to go about that, or if they need help walking through a difficult scenario in their family life."
Victoria residents who call the helpline will be connected to a full range of services offered through the Alzheimer Society of B.C including support groups, community resources and education workshops. The toll-free line is 1-800-936-6033.
