With major construction delays on the Malahat and a consensus that the lone mountain corridor is over worked, is it time to re-visit a floating bridge from the Victoria airport to Mill Bay?
Frustration over construction and volume delays on the Malahat a week ago boiled over and now Sonia Fursteneau, Green MLA for the Cowichan Valley is calling our transportation woes a "crisis".
"That is a result of a lack of a long term transportation strategy for southern Vancouver Island which we've needed to have in place."
Some like the Vancouver Island Party's Dr. Robin Richardson says it's time to re visit the idea of bridge connector closer to the airport.
"We're not shutting down the Malahat but we're giving people a quick alternative to get up island via floating bridge."
Kelowna has the William R. Bennett Bridge, which is a floating bridge. Meantime Fursteneau, says there are other ideas that should be considered first. "Let's; start with the more low hanging fruit, a bridge would be very costly and very disruptive."
Fursteneau says the island needs better rail and bus transportation. before we look at a bridge.
