It looked real enough.
A concerned boater notified Sooke RCMP Wednesday that a human body had washed up on the rocks at Beechy Head - near the Alyard Farm part of East Sooke Park.
The body was clad in an orange survival suit. Unfortunately, due to conditions on the water and rugged shoreline - the boater had not been able to get a close look at it.
Officers attended and hiked into the scene, where they located the cold and unresponsive body of a Department of National Defence training mannequin.
RCMP say the dummy had gone adrift during a training exercise, and was suffering only minor abrasions and an acute barnacle growth on the left hand and forearm.
DND have been notified and will recover their property.
