A boat caught fire in Sidney Harbour Saturday, with high winds feeding the fire it sent a large plume of black smoke into the air.
"Rapidly crews got down very quick, got one line in then a second marine pump and were able to get it under control." Said Sidney Fire Chief Brett Mikkelsen "Unfortunately the amount of damage and volume water we had to put on it to extinguish the fire and also keep the vessel directly adjacent to it from succumbing to the fire the vessel did sink."
Mikkelsen says that it may take a while to determine the cause of the fire because the boat sank.
Witnesses say a sheen could be seen on the water where the boat sank. An oil absorbent boom and soaker pads were put on the water to contain spills
No one was on board at the time of the fire, and no one was hurt.
