The bid committee to bring the 2022 Commonwealth Games to Victoria has added some heavy hitters to its ranks.
Chair David Black announced John Furlong- the man who was instrumental in bringing the Olympic Games in 2010 to Vancouver is joining the team, along with businessman George Heller, Olympic Gold Medalist Dr. Roger Jackson and former Lieutenant Governor Iona Campagnolo.
“I’m really pleased we are added all this depth to the bid committee which is sort of a preliminary organizing committee because we are only four years out," said Black on C-FAX 1070.
Black says the bid is moving along well even though the time is short.
“I think it’s going really well at this stage, they have given us an extra month to get our bid book together so that has to be in by the end of September.”
Black says the next step for the committee is make sure all enough venues are built in time if the bid is successful.
Vancouver is rumored to be making a bid along with favorites Liverpool and Birmingham in the UK. Black thinks its Canada’s turn. The winner of the bid is expected to be announced this fall.
