Victoria City Council has 3 options to consider when it comes to the future of Crystal Pool.
Mayor Lisa Helps says after 8 months of consultation with the public, staff have presented 3 options for consideration: A $40-million retrofit the existing facility; a $56-million renovation and expansion; or spend $68.4-million to build a new facility.
"You know, I think the decision for council is do we simply retrofit the exisiting facility, or do we expand the footprint of the exisiting facility? And a lot of the feedback, I think, landed on the side of expand the footprint."
Helps says whatever option is chosen the money is not in the budget so taxpayers would need to approve borrowing.
"The proposal is that we would take $10-million from the building and infrastructure reserve, which is there for these purposes, and then the rest would need to be through borrowing. So there is a tax impact. And we will need to go to the electors to seek a cent to borrow."
Council will discuss the matter at next Thursday's meeting.
