BC's Green leader says Liberal MLA Linda Reid should step aside as Assistant Deputy Speaker of the House pending investigation into .
Andrew Weaver makes the call after a whistleblower revealed Reid is the MLA mentioned in Darryl Plecas' report that was also the topic of a spending concern.
The whistleblower says he was dismissed after bringing up his conerns.
The Legislature's Sergeant-at-Arms and Clerk are currently on paid suspension pending an RCMP investigation into allegations of flagrant mispending.
And Weaver says Reid should step aside as well:
"We called for the MLA Involved, which was the Speaker -- Assistant Deputy Speaker now -- Linda Reid, to step aside temporarily while this is being investigated."
Linda Reid says she will make herself available to auditors and others investigating spending abuse allegations that happened when she was Speaker from 2013 to 2017.
Weaver says the allegations being made have eroded public trust in our democratic institutions, and stepping aside temporarily is the right thing the do:
" It's critical now in light of the fact that there is a cloud of mistrust over the legislature, that we move forward in a manner to get to the bottom of these allegations."
Weaver says that's not possible when one of those named by the whistleblower is still holding a position of power and oversight in the Legislature.
