The provincial government has hired an industry expert to help develop a made-in-B-C ride-sharing system.
Transportation Minister Claire Trevena says Dan Hara is renowned for his knowledge of the taxi industry in North America and has undertaken a number of reviews for cities and provinces across Canada as they brought in commercial ride-share services like Uber.
Hara is to come up with recommendations by early next year to help the province develop a system that will give people more options for getting around quickly, safely and affordably -- with legislative changes anticipated next fall.
Trevena says places that failed to move carefully when they brought in ride-sharing services have seen safety issues, unpredictable prices and unstable access to services.
