Now that a local doctor has pleaded guilty to recording staff in a Saanich medical clinic bathroom, the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons is examining what to do about his license to practice.
In a statement, the college calls the case of Dr. Mark David Thiessen “a deeply troubling situation.” They say the guilty plea and court results are now going to an disciplinary committee, which will decide what action to take.
But, at the moment, Dr. Thiessen is still licensed to practice and has been scheduled to work this week at Admirals Medical Clinic in View Royal. He was required to have a chaperone present for physical examinations or whenever a female patient had to disrobe.
The trouble happened at a different location, the Saanich Plaza Medical Clinic back in August 2015. That's where a staff member found Thiessen's cell phone behind a toilet set up to record. The court heard investigators never found any questionable images taken of staff, but there was a video showing the doctor placing the phone.
