B.C. Ferries say traffic numbers increased over the summer months with revenue rising as well. Second quarter results show Net earnings of $95.2 million and $122.2 million for the 3 & 6 months ending September 30th, which is tourist season. BC Ferry's typically generates most of their earnings in the first and second quarters, offset by losses over the winter months. Total revenue for the three-month period ended September 30, 2016 increased from $280.6 million to $298.9 million compared to the same period last year, mainly due to increases in traffic.
The money will help finance the new Salish Class vessels that start service next year and upgrades to 2 Spirit Class vessels, which include converting to natural gas.
