A demonstration on the West Shore Wednesday morning to show support for with Wet'suwet'en protesters in northern B.C. interfered with accessibility to the West Shore RCMP detachment.
About 40 protesters gathered in front of the detachment and used 3 vehicles to prevent the public from entering or leaving the building.
While emergency operations were not affected, an RCMP news release says volunteers for the West Shore RCMP's Speedwatch Program couldn't leave in a community-sponsored van. And a 79 year old volunteer for the 'Keep in Touch' program had to be escorted past the protest to get to a meeting inside.
Cpl. Chris Dovell says RCMP support the right to peaceful and safe protest, but businesses and community volunteers also have the right to conduct meetings.
Officers monitored the situation, but made no arrests.
