74 year old Jean Socrates has cast off on her attempt to become the oldest person to solo sail around the world.
A small group of well-wishers gathered to see her off as she starts her journey on today (Sunday). This is her second attempt to set the world record. The last time she set sail she had to turn back after her boat was damaged in a storm. This time she tells CTV Vancouver Island she is confident her boat will make the trip. “I’ve had extra time to make sure I have everything in order and I’m feeling good about the boat. She’s a good boat she’ll take care of me.”
The journey will raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat institution in the UK. She will head to Chile from Victoria and her trip will take 8 months.
