A disturbing allegation has surfaced about dozens of teenaged athletes allegedly being groped while they participated in the B.C. Summer Games.
Some 30 teens say they inappropriately touched during a dance on Saturday night at the event held at the Cowichan Exhibition Centre, and RCMP confirm they are investigating.
Kelly Mann, president of the B.C. Games Society, says the event is to celebrate coming together as an athletic community -- but about halfway through the night a group of girls began leaving the dance floor complaining of being groped by some male athletes. The ages of the girls has not been revealed -- but athletes' ages generally range from 13 to 18.
Volunteers quickly shut the dance down and began trying to determine what happened. Mann says it appears about a half dozen males were involved -- all young athletes involved in the games.
While the RCMP investigation will determine if charges are warranted, the Games Society says it intends to hand out its own discipline -- calling the behaviour "contrary to policies, practices of respect, integrity and the whole spirit of sport. "
