A year-long investigation into a series of historical sexual assault has ended with the arrest of a 71-year-old Esquimalt man.
VicPd say Kit Wong is facing 4 charges of sexual assault involving 4 women.
Wong was working as an acupuncturist, massage therapist and practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine out of his home-based business in Esquimalt. Several of the incidents are reported to have occurred there between 2005 and 2006.
Wong previously served as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. Although not a member of the medical staff, he practiced traditional Chinese medicine on service members.
Special Victims Unit Detective Graeme Leblanc says victims could include current and former serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces in Esquimalt and across Canada, current and former students of traditional Chinese medicine, as well as members of the wider community.
"Some of the victims that we've spoken to are military members, so that's why we believe that there's other members. We also know that he was an instructor in traditional Chinese medicine at a local college here. And 2 of the victims that we spoke to actually went to one of the schools that he was associated to."
The allegations have not been proven in court.
Leblanc thanks the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre and the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service for their contributions to the investigation.
