BC wildfire crews are dealing with 41 new wildfires after a weekend weather system brought lightning, along with some precipitation and cooler temperatures.
Fire Information Officer Ryan Turcott most of the new starts were triggered by lightning bringing the number of fires burning in the interior to 165. Twenty-eight of those have been deemed "fires of note".
Turcott says the largest is the Hanceville fire near Williams Lake which is estimated at 194-thousand hectares in size. The Elephant Hill fire near Kamloops is estimated at about 150-thousand hectares in size.
Turcott says while things have cooled off, it's not expected to last, with hot dry weather returning by the end of the week.
