Thieves broke into the Medix Holdings Ambulance station on Boleskine some time between May 15th and 20th and stole about $30-thousand worth of ambulance gear. The theft, and damage to ambulances, paralyzes the service which provides passenger transport, and supports Community and Industrial First Aid events.
Chief of Operations, Lyle Jordan, says lifesaving and specialized medical equipment are gone, and he fears the majority will not be covered by insurance. Things like small trauma kits, defibrillators, oxygen tanks and kits, radios (hand held and vehicle mounted), uniforms, medication and IV kits, blood pressure cuff kits, various vehicle mounted electronics and more.
Jordan say at this time the Victoria fleet is off the road and can not provide services of any kind until further notice.
He is also appealing to those responsible to return the gear and is offering help to get them on the right path in life:
"At this point, we would just want the equipment back. And we want to find you help to put you on a path that is not criminal . We don't want to see you go down this path or continue to go down this path. The equipment can eventually be replaced but when you end up going down this sort of thing, you never recover from it.
Jordan fears the gear may be broken down for the value of their metal, batteries, sold online, or may be used by those experimenting with IV drug use.
